Toyota Considers Full Return to Formula 1

Toyota Gazoo Racing's director, Masaya Kaji, has confirmed the automaker is 'gradually moving' towards a full return to Formula 1, spurred by a technical partnership with Haas that began in 2024. This collaboration marks Toyota's first involvement in F1 since its exit in 2009, and Kaji emphasized the importance of studying current and upcoming technologies, particularly for the 2026 season. Despite this renewed interest, Kaji clarified that Toyota is not positioned to redirect all resources toward a comprehensive F1 return in the short term, focusing instead on endurance racing and rallying. He noted that while the partnership with Haas provides valuable insights and opportunities, Toyota's full comeback is uncertain and likely years away. Additionally, Toyota-backed driver Ryo Hirakawa has joined Alpine as a reserve driver, further intertwining Toyota's presence in F1.
