El Monte Police Fatally Shoot Shoplifting Suspect

A shoplifting suspect, identified as 46-year-old Jose Moreno, was shot and killed by police in El Monte following a brief vehicle pursuit on Monday night. The incident began at a Target store where Moreno was reported for causing a disturbance and brandishing a firearm after he was previously caught stealing. Officers pursued Moreno's vehicle, which he abandoned near a Chase bank before fleeing on foot. The police shot Moreno on Tyler Avenue, where he suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene despite medical aid. A semi-automatic handgun was recovered, and no officers were injured in the incident. A female accomplice was detained and later released after being interviewed by the authorities.
