Pavement Parking Fines Increase Across Regions
Justice Minister Helen McEntee revealed that 214 fixed penalty notices for parking on footpaths were issued in the Wicklow/Wexford area in 2024, part of a nationwide total of 4,454 fines. The Dublin Metropolitan Region North accounted for the highest number of fines at 1,171, while County Cork had the least at 24. The increase in fines from €40 to €80 has generated an estimated €356,000 in revenue this year. In Scotland, the enforcement of a pavement parking ban in Perth and Kinross saw 81 fines issued in its first week, highlighting the dangers of such parking for pedestrians, particularly those with disabilities. Local authorities are also reviewing the effectiveness of these fines, with potential exemptions being considered. Both regions emphasize the importance of road safety and the need for responsible parking practices to ensure public accessibility.
