Cool-Safe Accredited for Refrigerant Stewardship in NZ

Aotearoa New Zealand's Cool-Safe scheme has been accredited under the Waste Minimisation Act to manage synthetic refrigerants, which contribute 2% of the country's greenhouse gas emissions. The initiative aims to reduce harm from potent greenhouse gases like HFCs, which are thousands of times more harmful to climate than CO2. The Trust for the Destruction of Synthetic Refrigerants has played a critical role in preventing significant greenhouse gas emissions and ozone depletion. Meanwhile, Orkney is engaging residents in shaping a Local Heat and Energy Efficiency Strategy to tackle greenhouse gas emissions from buildings, aiming for Net Zero by 2045. This strategy includes improving energy efficiency to combat high fuel poverty levels in the region.
