Suspect steals police car, USPS truck, crashes into family in Bridgeview

Miguel Alvarado, 36, faces multiple charges after allegedly stealing a Bedford Park police squad car and a U.S. Postal Service truck, ultimately crashing into a vehicle with a mother and her two children in Bridgeview. The chaotic incident began around 2:45 p.m. when Alvarado took control of the police car while officers responded to a call. After abandoning the disabled squad car, he hijacked the USPS truck and drove northbound on Roberts Road, where he collided with a family vehicle. The mother and her children, ages 4 and 7, were hospitalized but reported to be in stable condition. Alvarado has been charged with aggravated possession of a stolen vehicle and two counts of aggravated reckless driving, with additional charges anticipated.
