Scotland is bracing for an intense period of rainfall, with forecasts predicting up to a month's worth of rain within just 24 hours due to the remnants of Hurricane Ernesto. The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings across much of the west coast, including areas from Stornoway to Dumfries, effective from 9am on Wednesday until 6pm on Thursday. Rainfall amounts could reach as high as 150mm in the worst-hit regions, leading to significant risks of flooding, travel disruptions, and potential power outages. Winds are expected to gust up to 60mph, particularly affecting coastal areas and islands, raising safety concerns for those near the sea. In addition to the hurricane's effects, a separate weather warning for heavy rain is already in place for parts of Dumfries and Galloway. The intense weather is attributed to deep pressure systems originating from the North Atlantic, exacerbated by the tropical moisture from the storm.
