Arkansas Shortstop Wehiwa Aloy Wins 2025 Golden Spikes Award
Arkansas shortstop Wehiwa Aloy won the 2025 Golden Spikes Award, recognizing him as the nation's top amateur baseball player for his exceptional performance and sportsmanship. Aloy, who was named SEC Player of the Year, posted a .350 batting average with 21 home runs, 19 doubles, 68 RBIs, and a .434 on-base percentage, while also excelling defensively with a .978 fielding percentage. He becomes the third Arkansas player to win the award in the last decade, following Andrew Benintendi and Kevin Kopps, and continues the SEC's five-year streak of winners. Florida State shortstop Alex Lodise finished as a runner-up; Lodise had an outstanding season with a .394 batting average, 17 home runs, and earned ACC Player and Defensive Player of the Year honors, as well as the Dick Howser Trophy. Tennessee pitcher Liam Doyle was also a finalist. Aloy is expected to be a first-round pick in the upcoming MLB Draft, likely forgoing remaining college eligibility.
