Myanmar Hosts ASEAN-China Tourism Security Forum to Strengthen Regional Travel Cooperation
Myanmar and China continue to strengthen their bilateral relations through various initiatives in 2025. The 2025 Third Quarter Myanmar-China Media Meeting in Yangon highlighted the importance of commemorating historic anniversaries such as China’s victory in the Anti-Japanese War and the 75th anniversary of Myanmar-China diplomatic ties, emphasizing peace and enduring friendship. Myanmar also hosted the ASEAN-China Tourism Security and Safety Forum, focusing on enhancing regional cooperation to ensure safe, secure, and sustainable tourism development, with leaders calling for deeper security collaboration and digital innovation. Preparations for the 22nd China-ASEAN Expo, to be held in September 2025 in Nanning, China, include Myanmar’s participation with 120 booths showcasing local products, underscoring the country’s active role in regional trade. Furthermore, a Myanmar-China friendship shopping mall is planned for Sagaing, supported by a $223,000 donation from the Chinese Embassy and China Enterprises Chamber of Commerce in Myanmar, reflecting ongoing Chinese investment in Myanmar's infrastructure and social services. These efforts collectively demonstrate a multi-sectoral strengthening of Myanmar-China ties across media, tourism, trade, and community development.
