Nick Ahmed Retires After 12-Year MLB Career
Two-time Gold Glove-winning shortstop Nick Ahmed announced his retirement from professional baseball at age 35, concluding a 12-year MLB career. Ahmed was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in 2011 but made his major league debut in 2014 with the Arizona Diamondbacks, where he spent his primary years and won Gold Gloves in 2018 and 2019. In addition to the Diamondbacks, he also played for the San Francisco Giants, Los Angeles Dodgers, San Diego Padres, and Texas Rangers during his final two seasons. Ahmed retires with a .233 batting average, 72 home runs, 339 RBIs, and 964 games played. In his retirement announcements, he expressed gratitude for his faith, family, and the support of his wife Amanda. Ahmed is recognized as one of the National League's premier defensive shortstops.
