Two former Dublin High School students were arrested for their involvement in the assault of 14-year-old Dasanni Barfield on August 23. Gerald Coats, 18, faces charges of felony assault, child abuse, and trespassing, while a 17-year-old suspect also faces felony assault charges. The incident began when Barfield was confronted by a female student and her mother, who allegedly used racial slurs, before being followed into the locker room by Coats and others, where he was attacked. The mother and female student were not directly involved in the physical assault and are not currently charged. Barfield suffered a concussion, broken nose, and other injuries. Dublin police are continuing their investigation and are seeking additional suspects.
