Electric Trucks Outperform Diesel Vehicles on Long Haul Routes

Recent studies indicate that battery-powered electric trucks are becoming more cost-effective than diesel trucks for long-distance routes, particularly in Shenzhen, where a pilot program revealed that electric vehicles outperform diesel in total cost of ownership over annual mileages exceeding 60,000 kilometers. The decline in battery costs has made electric trucks competitive even on shorter routes, prompting the Guangdong provincial government to pursue zero-emission freight corridors in the Greater Bay Area. Meanwhile, a survey found that 82% of electric vehicle owners are satisfied with their purchases, the highest among all vehicle types, highlighting the growing adoption of EVs and their positive environmental impact. However, challenges remain, particularly regarding the initial price gap, with electric vehicles averaging $6,000 more than gas vehicles, though government incentives may alleviate some costs. The ongoing debate between EVs and gas vehicles centers on personal priorities, such as environmental considerations versus convenience.
