Library of Congress Selects 25 Films for Registry

The Library of Congress has announced the addition of 25 films to the National Film Registry for 2024, including iconic 1980s hits 'Dirty Dancing' and 'Beverly Hills Cop.' 'Dirty Dancing' (1987) is celebrated for its portrayal of serious themes such as abortion and classism, alongside memorable performances by Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey. 'Beverly Hills Cop' (1984) marked Eddie Murphy's ascent to fame and solidified the action-comedy genre's popularity. This year's selections bring the total number of films in the registry to 900, reflecting America's cinematic heritage. Other notable additions include 'Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan,' 'No Country for Old Men,' and 'Pride of the Yankees.' The public contributed over 6,700 nominations for consideration, showcasing a collective effort to preserve significant films.
