Irvin struck out eight batters and retired the final 17 he faced, marking the longest outing of his major league career. Jesse Winker secured the win with a pinch-hit home run in the eighth inning, his 10th of the season. Despite a strong start by Mets pitcher Jose Quintana, who allowed four hits in seven scoreless innings, the Mets were unable to generate offense and suffered their seventh shutout of the season.
