Milwaukee Mother Charged with Child Neglect After Infant Drowning

Selena Renee Doxzon, a 28-year-old Milwaukee woman, has been charged with neglecting a child resulting in death after her 13-month-old son drowned in a bathtub while left unattended. On May 15, Doxzon placed her 13-month-old and 3-year-old sons together in a bathtub filled with water above the younger child's belly and went to the kitchen for about four minutes. The 3-year-old then entered the kitchen soaking wet, prompting Doxzon to find her infant son floating face-up and unresponsive. Despite CPR efforts by a neighbor and emergency responders, the infant was pronounced dead at Children's Wisconsin hospital. The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner ruled the cause of death as asphyxiation due to drowning, and Doxzon admitted the water level was too high and that she could not see the bathroom from the kitchen to supervise her children. She faces a Class D felony charge carrying a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison and a $100,000 fine, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for May 30.
