Los Angeles Opens New San Fernando Bike Path

Los Angeles has completed the third phase of the San Fernando Bike Path, adding 4.75 miles of protected bike lanes and creating a continuous nearly 10-mile route from Burbank to Sylmar. City Councilmember Imelda Padilla and City Council President Paul Krekorian highlighted the path's importance for community connectivity and environmental sustainability, especially in an area burdened by pollution and traffic. The project includes new bike bridges, lighting, safety features, and improved transit stops, aiming to enhance mobility for residents, many of whom rely on bicycles for transportation. The completion is seen as a significant step toward 'environmental justice' in Sun Valley, providing safer recreational options for families. City officials celebrated the project's completion as a commitment to building healthier communities and reducing reliance on cars. The total cost for the bike path extension was over $30 million.
