Kutcher: Looks Shaped Casting; Praises FX's The Beauty

At New York Comic Con on Oct. 11, Ashton Kutcher said his "model" looks have at times cost him grittier, "down-on-your-luck" roles even as his appearance has helped secure other parts. He said casting often relies on appearance to create an immediate visual feeling and that his experience as a producer gives him insight into those storytelling choices. Kutcher praised his FX series The Beauty for giving him a nuanced, morally complex role he called one of the great delights of his career. The Beauty, created by Ryan Murphy and Matthew Hodgson and adapted from the comic by Jeremy Haun and Jason A. Hurley, stars Rebecca Hall, Evan Peters, Anthony Ramos and Jeremy Pope and imagines a world where a sexually transmitted virus enhances physical attractiveness at deadly cost. The series is slated to premiere in January.
