Adam Yates Wins Stage 9 at Vuelta a España

Adam Yates of UAE Team Emirates claimed a remarkable solo victory on stage nine of the Vuelta a España, attacking 58km from the finish in the Sierra Nevada mountains. Yates' performance saw him jump from 27th to seventh in the general classification, finishing ahead of Ecuador's Richard Carapaz, who moved up to third overall. Ben O'Connor retained his overall lead, increasing it slightly over Primoz Roglic after finishing third in the stage. The grueling 178.5km route from Motril to Granada featured three category-one climbs, testing riders' endurance in nearly 40-degree heat. Despite losing teammate João Almeida to COVID-19, Yates and his teammates managed to dominate the breakaway group. This victory marks Yates' first stage win in the Vuelta and his second in a Grand Tour, following his stage 1 win in the Tour de France 2023.
