Four WVU Football Players Sue NCAA for 2025 Eligibility
Four West Virginia University football players—Jimmori Robinson, Jeffrey Weimer, Tye Edwards, and Justin Harrington—have filed a federal lawsuit against the NCAA seeking immediate eligibility to play in the 2025 season after their waivers were denied. The lawsuit alleges antitrust violations under federal and West Virginia law, breach of contract, promissory estoppel, and tortious interference, focusing on the NCAA's so-called “JUCO Penalty” that affects athletes who began their careers at junior colleges. The players claim they relied on NCAA guidance from December 2024 that suggested looser restrictions but faced arbitrary and inconsistent waiver decisions, leading them to forego the NFL Draft under the belief they had additional eligibility. The case follows a similar recent win by former WVU and current Nevada receiver Cortez Braham, who was granted a preliminary injunction for a seventh year of college football after suing the NCAA. WVU head coach Rich Rodriguez has expressed frustration over the delay and the uncertainty surrounding the players’ eligibility, emphasizing the team’s need to prepare for either outcome as fall camp progresses. The players seek an injunction to participate this season and damages, challenging the NCAA's eligibility rules and enforcement practices.
