Initially, he was offered the role of Salim, the elder brother of the protagonist, but director Danny Boyle felt Sial's maturity was a mismatch for the character. Despite his eagerness to appear younger, Boyle highlighted that Sial's extensive experience could not be easily masked. Sial was later approached for the role of the police officer, which ultimately went to Irrfan Khan; however, he dismissed it, not realizing its importance in the narrative. Looking back, Sial acknowledged that both decisions were part of his learning journey and stated, 'Whatever happens, is for the best.' He praised Irrfan's performance in the role he declined, recognizing the magic he brought to the film.
