British Teen Jay Slater Found Dead After Drugs, 14-Hour Walk in Tenerife

Jay Slater, a 19-year-old from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, was found dead in a ravine in Tenerife after disappearing following a night out where he consumed multiple drugs and alcohol. Evidence heard during an inquest revealed that he had taken ecstasy, possibly ketamine, cocaine, and alcohol at the NRG music festival and Papagayo nightclub. After being asked to leave the nightclub due to intoxication, he went to an Airbnb miles away with two men they had met, rather than returning to the apartment he shared with his friend Bradley Geoghegan. The next morning, Slater called Geoghegan via video while walking along a road, still under the influence and about a 14-hour walk or an hour drive from home. Slater likely lacked money to pay for taxis, which required upfront payment, and after failing to get transport, he attempted to walk back and fell from a height into a ravine. Coroner Dr. James Adeley confirmed that Slater appeared not to be under duress or threat, and had probably sobered up and decided to return before his fatal accident.
