The pivotal haircut sequence was filmed on camera in a single take, largely on VistaVision and using four cameras; Stone said she was “so afraid” and mentally repeated “stay still” to avoid flinching, and Lanthimos recalled she briefly had “cold feet” before the moment. Stone deliberately kept the bald look secret for months—wearing beanies in public—to preserve the audience surprise much like the delayed reveal in Poor Things. She described the makeover as freeing and said her mother’s chemotherapy experience gave the transformation personal resonance. Bugonia is set for release on October 31.
