AT&T Upgrades 911 Network to Send Photos, Videos Nationwide
Starting in October, AT&T will enhance its next-generation 911 platform, ESInet, to allow customers to send photos and videos to emergency dispatchers as easily as texting friends, significantly improving situational awareness for first responders. This update simplifies what is currently a complicated process and is designed to be interoperable with other carriers as they upgrade their own NG911 systems, aiming for nationwide multimedia emergency messaging availability. Additionally, select 2026 Toyota vehicles equipped with AT&T Connected Car SIMs will automatically transmit crash data, including airbag deployment and precise location, directly to 911 centers, marking the first fully integrated crash telemetry transmission in the U.S. The ESInet platform, which now serves over 1,700 emergency call centers covering around 75 million people, also includes new security features providing dispatchers with a dedicated private internet connection to protect sensitive emergency data from cyber threats. These improvements follow the introduction of Apple’s Emergency SOS Live Video feature, complementing efforts to modernize emergency communication and response. Overall, AT&T’s upgrades represent a major step forward in emergency services technology by enhancing communication speed, reliability, and security.
