Minnesota Woman Charged in 2011 Baby Angel Case

Jennifer Nichole Baechle, 43, of Winona, Minnesota, has been arrested and charged with second-degree manslaughter in the 2011 death of 'Baby Angel,' a newborn found in the Mississippi River. The case was revived using advanced DNA technology from the nonprofit Firebird Forensics Group, known for work on cases such as the Golden State Killer. Investigators collected voluntary DNA samples from potential relatives and obtained Baechle's DNA from discarded items and a court-ordered sample, confirming her as the biological mother. Relatives identified a pendant and angel figurines found with the infant as belonging to Baechle. She was booked on suspicion of second-degree manslaughter.
