Arrest Made in 1999 Florida Cold Case
Gary Durrance, 73, has been arrested and charged with second-degree homicide for the brutal 1999 murder of his girlfriend, Sherry Holtz, in Sanford, Florida. Advances in DNA technology allowed Sanford Police to reopen the cold case and match Durrance's DNA to samples found on a knife at the crime scene. Holtz was found with multiple injuries, including a cut throat, blunt force trauma, strangulation, and signs of sexual battery. Durrance and Holtz had a tumultuous relationship, and he had kicked her out of their shared home the night before her body was discovered. Durrance is being held in the Seminole County Jail without bond and is scheduled to appear in court on September 10. Police believe they have finally brought the right person to justice after nearly 25 years.
