Man, 23, jailed for raping 61-year-old in Edinburgh home

Bradley Shand, a 23-year-old man, has been sentenced to ten years in prison after being found guilty of raping a 61-year-old woman in her Edinburgh home on January 9, 2023. The High Court heard that Shand kicked in her French door while she was alone watching TV, then assaulted her after taking her phone to prevent her from calling for help. Judge Lord Summers described the attack as 'absolutely disgraceful,' noting the severe impact on the victim, who was left injured and traumatized. Shand was also convicted of attempting to rob another couple shortly after the assault. In addition to his prison sentence, he will be supervised for two years post-release and is required to register as a sex offender indefinitely. Procurator Fiscal Katrina Parkes characterized Shand as a sexual predator, urging other victims to come forward for justice.
