Lakewood Parents Charged in Infant Daughter's Death

Ruben Santiago, 36, and Caitlin Gibson, 28, of Lakewood, New Jersey, have been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of their three-month-old daughter. Police responded to an emergency call on Pinehurst Drive on May 5th for an infant having trouble breathing and found the baby unresponsive. The infant died the next day after being transferred to a pediatric intensive care unit. An autopsy determined the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head, resulting in skull fractures and a subdural hematoma, and the death was ruled a homicide. Authorities allege both parents are responsible for the fatal injuries but have not disclosed further details. Santiago and Gibson were arrested on May 7 and remain in the Ocean County Jail pending a detention hearing.
