Charles Shyer, Oscar-Nominated Screenwriter, Dies at 83
Charles Shyer, the Oscar-nominated screenwriter and director celebrated for his work on iconic comedies such as 'Private Benjamin' and the 'Father of the Bride' series, has died at the age of 83, with the cause of death remaining undisclosed. Shyer's family released a heartfelt statement expressing their deep sorrow and highlighting his enduring legacy through his films and children. His career, which spanned over five decades, was marked by a successful partnership with Nancy Meyers, with whom he created beloved hits including 'Baby Boom' and 'Irreconcilable Differences'. Shyer was nominated for an Oscar for 'Private Benjamin' in 1981, a film that launched his prolific collaboration with Meyers. After their divorce in 1999, he continued to direct films such as 'The Affair of the Necklace' and 'Alfie', with his more recent works including the Netflix film 'The Noel Diary'. Shyer is survived by four children, including filmmaker Hallie Meyers-Shyer.
