Eight Candidates Vie for Arizona CD7 Special Election Seat

Southern Arizona's Congressional District 7 is preparing for a special election to fill the seat left vacant by the late Rep. Raúl Grijalva. The July 15 primary features a diverse group of eight candidates, including Grijalva's daughter Adelita Grijalva, former state lawmaker Daniel Hernandez, and 25-year-old Gen Z activist and influencer Deja Foxx. Foxx, notable for her grassroots organizing and digital strategy work, including for Kamala Harris' 2020 campaign, aims to energize younger voters by blending traditional campaigning with social media outreach. Her campaign focuses on addressing systemic issues from a lived-experience perspective, advocating for bold policies such as a ceasefire in Gaza and immigration reform. Despite her youth and lack of major endorsements, Foxx has gained attention as a fresh voice in the race, striving to make electoral politics more engaging and representative of younger generations. Voters will have opportunities to meet candidates in events like the June 7 Coffee with Candidates, and early voting begins on June 18.
