Zuckerberg Gifts Headphones Amid Multi-Home Palo Alto Construction Disputes
Mark Zuckerberg has faced growing frustration from his neighbors in Palo Alto's Crescent Park neighborhood as he has quietly purchased and developed at least 11 homes into a sprawling compound worth over $110 million. Over the past 14 years, this expansion has transformed the once-idyllic neighborhood into a zone dominated by near-constant construction, heavy surveillance, and frequent lavish parties, disrupting the community's peace. To address complaints about noise and disruption, Zuckerberg distributed noise-canceling headphones, along with bottles of sparkling wine and Krispy Kreme doughnuts, but these gestures have been met with mixed reactions and criticism. The compound includes several guest houses, lush gardens, a pickleball court, a pool with a hydrofloor, a private school, and a 7,000-square-foot underground structure neighbors describe as a "billionaire's bat cave." Residents have also expressed concerns about intense surveillance, with security cameras monitoring surrounding homes and private guards patrolling the area. Despite the community's objections and fears of retaliation, city permits have largely enabled the extensive development, leaving neighbors feeling their neighborhood has been effectively occupied.
