USPS Keeps Stamp Price at $0.78 Through Mid‑2026
The U.S. Postal Service announced it will not seek price increases for market-dominant products in January 2026, keeping the 1-ounce First-Class Mail (Forever) stamp at $0.78 through mid-2026. Postmaster General David Steiner recommended the freeze and the USPS Board of Governors accepted it, saying the move balances revenue needs with affordability and aligns with the agency’s Delivering for America strategic plan. The current $0.78 price took effect after a July 2024 increase from $0.73, which the agency said raised mailing-services prices overall by about 7.4%. USPS officials emphasized ongoing cost-efficiency and service-reliability efforts and noted the agency generally receives no tax dollars and depends on postage and services for funding. They also warned a price change could still occur mid-2026, typically in July.
