North Dakota Woman Charged After Hatchet Attack Severely Injures Boyfriend
Lena Deoliveira, 23, is charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault after allegedly attacking her boyfriend, Jonathan Granados, with a hatchet while he was sleeping in a detached garage in Fargo, North Dakota. A witness staying with the couple described hearing sounds like "splitting wood" and saw Deoliveira swing the hatchet down, though the exact point of impact was obscured; Granados was found with severe head lacerations and fingers missing or hanging. Granados required emergency surgery for his injuries and was treated at a local hospital. Deoliveira fled the scene but was arrested two days later in Moorhead, Minnesota, and is being held on a $500,000 bond. Court documents and police reports detail the violent nature of the attack, including a visible blood trail and significant skull damage. The motive for the assault has not been disclosed.
