Trinity Byars Signs with San Diego Wave FC

The San Diego Wave has made history by signing Trinity Byars, a forward from the University of Texas, marking her as the first NCAA athlete to join the NWSL directly after the league abolished the draft. Byars has signed a three-year contract with a mutual option for 2027, allowing her to be a free agent in a new era for college players. Despite missing most of her senior season due to a knee injury, Byars leaves Texas as the all-time leader in goals and has an impressive youth international record, having played for the U.S. from U14 to U23 levels. This signing follows the NWSL's recent collective bargaining agreement that empowers players to choose their teams, reflecting a significant shift in the recruitment landscape.
