Eagle Produce LLC has recalled 224 cases of whole cantaloupes sold under the brand name 'Kandy' in Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, Texas, and Virginia due to possible salmonella contamination. The recall follows routine sample testing by Michigan state health officials that detected the bacteria. The affected cantaloupes, sold between August 13-17, 2024, can be identified by a red and white sticker with the UPC number 4050 and lot code 846468. Although no illnesses have been reported, salmonella can cause severe and sometimes fatal infections, particularly in young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. Consumers are advised to dispose of the recalled melons immediately. The FDA is monitoring the situation and the company is cooperating with the recall process.
