Johnny Cash Statue Unveiling at U.S. Capitol
The U.S. Capitol will unveil a statue of country music legend Johnny Cash on September 24th in Emancipation Hall. Cash, an Arkansas native, will be the state's second representative in the National Statuary Hall, joining civil rights leader Daisy Bates. The 8-foot-tall bronze statue, created by sculptor Kevin Kresse, depicts Cash with a guitar and a Bible. The ceremony will be attended by House Speaker Mike Johnson, Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders, and members of Cash's family. This statue replaces one of two older statues tied to controversial historical figures, marking a modern shift in representation at the Capitol.
