Langeliers, Athletics Top Rangers; Seager Injured
The Oakland Athletics defeated the Texas Rangers 5-2, led by Shea Langeliers' four-hit game and a strong major league debut from Nick Kurtz, who drove in a run. Lawrence Butler hit his fourth home run of the season, helping the Athletics tally four runs in the first inning and boost their first-inning batting average to .304, third best in MLB. Rangers starter Kumar Rocker struggled, giving up five runs before being pulled in the second inning. JP Sears pitched five innings and improved his career record against the Rangers to 5-1, while Mason Miller earned his seventh save. The Rangers placed shortstop Corey Seager on the 10-day injured list with hip discomfort, and Joc Pederson broke a hitless streak with a pinch-hit double. The victory was only the Athletics' third home win this season at Sutter Health Park.
