Queens Trio in Construction Vests Steal $3.2M Jewelry

On Oct. 16 at about 2:20 p.m., three suspects broke into a Jamaica Hills, Queens home near 160th Street and 84th Drive and stole a safe and jewelry valued at roughly $3.2 million. Police say two suspects were disguised as construction workers in neon reflective vests, white hard hats and protective eyewear while a third, wearing a white hoodie, waited in a blue Hyundai Elantra that served as the getaway vehicle; surveillance video and photos show the suspects loading the safe into the car. Authorities released the images, provided suspect descriptions, and urged anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS; no arrests have been made and investigators continue to review footage. The homeowner told reporters the safe held mostly his daughter’s jewelry and said his property had been targeted in previous burglaries. Police warned that criminals may be copying recent high-profile thefts by using construction-worker disguises as part of the scheme.
