Air India Crash Kills Over 260 in Ahmedabad Residential Area
An Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner carrying 242 people crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad, India, killing more than 260 people including passengers, crew, and individuals on the ground. Rescue teams, including sniffer dogs, have been searching the crash site, which included a medical college hostel and a canteen building where students were having lunch, resulting in additional ground casualties. Only one passenger, a British national of Indian origin named Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, survived and is currently hospitalized with multiple injuries. Authorities are conducting DNA testing to identify the victims, as many bodies were badly burned, and families have been providing samples to assist the process. Indian officials, including Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, have expressed condolences and are overseeing the ongoing investigation, which involves international experts from the UK, US, and Boeing. The Indian government is also considering grounding Air India's Boeing 787 fleet as the investigation continues into the cause of the crash.
