Nirmal and Somasila Named Best Tourism Villages 2024

Nirmal village and Somasila village in Telangana have been awarded the titles of Best Tourism Village in the Crafts and Spiritual-Wellness categories, respectively, by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. The awards were presented during a ceremony on World Tourism Day, September 27, 2024, recognizing the villages for their cultural and spiritual significance. Nirmal is celebrated for its traditional crafts, particularly its famous Nirmal paintings and wooden toys, while Somasila is known for its serene atmosphere and the Somasila Temple along the Krishna River. The competition saw an increase in participation this year, receiving 991 applications from across 30 states and union territories. This initiative aims to promote rural tourism and sustainable practices in India, highlighting the importance of preserving cultural heritage. The recognition of these villages is part of a broader effort to enhance rural tourism and economic growth within local communities.
