Lee Westwood Secures Spot at British Open
Lee Westwood, aged 52, qualified for his 28th Open Championship by winning the Final Qualifying event at Dundonald Links with a seven-under-par total, despite battling jet lag from a LIV Golf event in Dallas. This marks his first major appearance since joining the Saudi-funded LIV Golf series, which had restricted his access to traditional major qualifications. Westwood is joined by fellow LIV players Dean Burmester and Lucas Herbert, while Ian Poulter, his son Luke, and Graeme McDowell did not qualify. Westwood, who finished fourth at Royal Portrush in 2019, expressed enthusiasm about returning to the venue and highlighted the unique prestige of The Open for British players. He noted the challenge of adapting to an unfamiliar course and playing 36 holes in one day with little rest. The Open is scheduled for July 17-20 in Northern Ireland.
