Grants Awarded to Support Minority Businesses
Three Wisconsin restaurants, including Yo' Mama's Kitchen, received $20,000 each from Heinz’s Black Kitchen Initiative aimed at supporting Black-owned food businesses. The Campbells, owners of Yo' Mama's Kitchen, faced significant setbacks after their restaurant was robbed and subsequently condemned but plan to utilize the funds for a youth culinary program and their catering business. Meanwhile, Johnson County, Iowa, has introduced the Underestimated Small Business Grant to assist struggling businesses impacted by COVID-19, with awards ranging from $3,500 to $20,000. In Winston-Salem, a total of $270,000 was distributed among 25 minority-owned businesses through the MBE Grant program, aimed at promoting economic recovery and job retention. The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation is also offering grants to organizations that support underrepresented entrepreneurs, with applications open until January 31. These initiatives reflect ongoing efforts to bolster minority-owned businesses in various communities across the U.S.
