Anaheim Caregiver Charged with Raping 93-Year-Old Woman With Dementia

Phuong Hoang Khong, a 69-year-old caretaker from Anaheim, has been charged with multiple felonies including rape and elder abuse after allegedly assaulting a 93-year-old bedridden woman with dementia. The incident occurred on January 6, 2025, when Khong, who cared for the woman three times a week, reportedly covered her eyes with a medical mask, removed her diaper, and restrained her before the assault. He turned himself in to the police on February 3, following threats from the victim's family to report him. Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer condemned the crime, emphasizing the targeting of vulnerable individuals. If convicted, Khong faces a maximum sentence of 75 years to life in prison plus an additional four years. This case has sparked discussions regarding protections for the elderly and the oversight of caregivers in similar situations.
