Los Angeles DA withdraws Menendez brothers' resentencing request

Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman has decided to withdraw the previous request for resentencing the Menendez brothers, who are currently serving life sentences for the 1989 murders of their parents. Hochman cited the brothers' failure to take responsibility for their actions and their lack of acknowledgment regarding the fabricated nature of their self-defense claim. The brothers, Lyle and Erik Menendez, had previously sought clemency and a new trial based on claims of new evidence, which Hochman has dismissed as insufficient. This decision marks a significant shift from the stance of former DA George Gascón, who had supported a reduction of their sentences. Hochman emphasized the importance of the brothers demonstrating accountability before any consideration of resentencing. The upcoming hearing set for March 20 may still proceed at the court's discretion, despite Hochman's objections.
