Boeing Shares Rise After Air India 787 Crash Probe Finds No Immediate Fault
Shares of Boeing rose following the release of a preliminary investigation report into the June 12 crash of an Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner near Ahmedabad, which resulted in the deadliest aviation disaster of the past decade. Indian investigators highlighted that fuel switches may have been turned off at a critical moment during takeoff, potentially causing the loss of thrust and subsequent descent. The report found no evidence of mechanical or maintenance issues with the aircraft and did not recommend any immediate actions for Boeing or operators of the 787 or its engines, as also noted by the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board. In response, South Korea ordered domestic airlines to conduct checks on fuel switches in line with a 2019 FAA advisory, while Boeing stock saw price target increases and a surge in premarket trading. Air India’s CEO cautioned that the probe is ongoing and urged against premature conclusions. While the FAA confirmed the safety of the fuel switches, the crash has renewed scrutiny on Boeing’s safety record following previous 737 Max incidents.
