Ghanaian Journalist Godwin Asediba Wins 2025 BBC Komla Dumor Award
Ghanaian journalist Godwin Asediba has won the 2025 BBC News Komla Dumor Award, becoming the 10th recipient of this prestigious accolade that honors the legacy of Komla Dumor, a Ghanaian BBC World News presenter known for his authentic storytelling about Africa. Asediba, an investigative reporter, filmmaker, and news anchor with TV3 and 3FM in Ghana, is recognized for his human-interest stories that expose injustice and amplify marginalized voices, including a notable investigation into the neglect of one of Ghana's largest mortuaries posing a public health risk. The award includes a three-month placement at BBC News in London, where Asediba will work across television, radio, and digital platforms, receive mentorship from leading journalists, and travel to another African country to produce a special report. He described the award as both a personal milestone and a call to continue the spirit of journalism that inspires and transforms, emphasizing the importance of telling African stories with depth, dignity, and truth. BBC's regional director for Africa, Juliet Njeri, highlighted the award's role in nurturing some of Africa's most talented journalists over the past decade and its testament to Dumor's enduring legacy. The Komla Dumor Award also aims to support outstanding African journalists and reflects BBC News' commitment to investing in journalism across the continent.
