Yankees Reinstate Chisholm, Cruz Place Weaver on IL
The New York Yankees made several roster moves on June 3, reinstating infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. and right-handed reliever Fernando Cruz from the injured list while placing closer Luke Weaver on the 15-day injured list due to a left hamstring strain. Chisholm, sidelined since late April with an oblique strain, batted .181 with seven home runs and 17 RBIs in 30 games before his injury and is expected to provide depth at third base upon his return. Cruz has been a reliable bullpen arm with a 2.66 ERA in 21 appearances this season. Weaver, who has served as the team’s closer since late April with a 1.05 ERA and eight saves, sustained the hamstring injury while warming up and is expected to miss four to six weeks. To fill roster spots, the Yankees recalled right-hander Yerry de los Santos from Triple-A, optioned infielder Jorbit Vivas to Triple-A, and designated right-hander Carlos Carrasco for assignment. These changes come as the Yankees prepare to host the Cleveland Guardians for a three-game series at Yankee Stadium.
