Ball State Football Fires Coach Mike Neu

Ball State University has fired head football coach Mike Neu after a disappointing season, leaving him with a record of 40-63 over nine seasons. Neu's tenure included a Mid-American Conference (MAC) Championship in 2020, which remains his only winning season as head coach, with the team finishing 7-1 that year. The Cardinals currently hold a 3-7 record for the 2024 season, marking their third consecutive year without bowl eligibility. Offensive line coach Colin Johnson has been named interim head coach as the university begins its search for a permanent replacement. Neu's dismissal follows a recent overtime loss to Buffalo that eliminated any hope of postseason play. His overall MAC record was 23-39, and he led the team to two bowl appearances during his time at Ball State.
