As extreme cold weather sweeps across the Midwest, several school districts have announced closures due to dangerous temperatures. In the Kansas City area, Blue Valley Schools, Shawnee Mission Schools, and Olathe Public Schools have canceled classes for Thursday, with air temperatures expected to reach -10° and feel-like temperatures plummeting to -30°. Similarly, Beatrice Public Schools also closed on Tuesday due to a winter storm bringing snow and wind chills reaching -30°. North Platte Public Schools in Nebraska also called off classes on Tuesday, citing wind chills between 20 to 30 below zero. In Greater Akron, Ohio, schools faced closures and delays on February 18 due to wind chills as low as -9. The National Weather Service has issued various weather advisories across these regions, warning of hazardous conditions.
