India Confirms First Mpox Case

India has confirmed its first travel-related case of Mpox (monkeypox) in a young male who recently returned from an African country experiencing ongoing transmission. The patient, isolated at a designated facility, is stable and without systemic illness. The Ministry of Health emphasized that this case involves the West African clade 2, which is not part of the current WHO-declared public health emergency concerning clade 1. Public health measures, including contact tracing and monitoring, are in place, and authorities have issued advisories to states to remain vigilant. The Ministry reassured that there is no widespread risk to the public, consistent with previous risk assessments, and robust measures are in place to manage isolated cases.
