LEGO Introduces Sunflower Lanyard Characters
To celebrate International Day of Persons with Disabilities, LEGO has launched its first toys featuring characters with Sunflower lanyards, designed to signify hidden disabilities such as autism and anxiety. This initiative, developed in collaboration with the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower organization, aims to promote awareness and inclusion across various age groups. The new sets include LEGO DUPLO's First Time at the Airport for toddlers, LEGO Friends Heartlake City Airport for older children, and LEGO Icons Tudor Corner aimed at adults, each featuring characters with the Sunflower lanyard. LEGO stores in Europe will also become Sensory Inclusive Certified by KultureCity by March 2025, enhancing support for individuals with non-visible conditions. Lauren von Stackelberg, LEGO's chief diversity and inclusion officer, emphasized the importance of representation in shaping children's perceptions of diversity and inclusivity. This move follows LEGO's ongoing efforts to reflect various cultures and disabilities within its products.
