Ramone Alston, a convicted murderer serving a life sentence, was captured early Friday at a hotel in Kannapolis, North Carolina, three days after escaping during transport to a medical appointment. Alston freed himself from leg restraints and fled into nearby woods while still in handcuffs. His capture involved multiple law enforcement agencies, including the FBI Charlotte SWAT team, and no injuries occurred during the arrest. Authorities also arrested Jacobia Crisp, an acquaintance, on felony charges of aiding and abetting a fugitive, and continue to investigate potential additional accomplices and any other crimes committed by Alston while on the run. The officers responsible for transporting Alston have been reassigned pending an internal investigation. Alston, who was initially imprisoned for killing a one-year-old child, will now face additional charges for his escape.
